Flagship Programs

These are the programmes that define who we are. Built over years of listening, learning, and iterating with communities, each flagship represents SAARP's deepest commitment to a particular dimension of rural well-being.

science

Rural Science Lab Network

Twenty-five permanent science corners in government schools across Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi, stocked with experiment kits that turn abstract textbook concepts into ah-ha moments. Children who once only read about gravity now measure it.

forest

Eco-Village Transformation

A multi-year flagship that walks 50 villages through afforestation, water-body restoration, and the revival of traditional conservation practices. Villages don't just get greener, they rediscover their own ecological wisdom.

medical_services

Siddha Village Health Camps

Monthly mobile clinics where our grandmothers' medicine meets modern screening. Each camp serves 200+ families, offering free checkups, Siddha consultations, and health awareness that travels from one home to the next.

stars

Stargazers Tamil Nadu

A state-wide astronomy outreach that takes telescopes to the countryside. For a child who has never seen the moon up close, that first look through a lens is pure wonder. We follow it with workshops that turn wonder into ambition.

crisis_alert

Coastal Resilience Program

Cyclones and floods don't wait for anyone, but communities can be ready. Working across 30 coastal villages in Ramanathapuram and Cuddalore, we train local response teams, set up early warning networks, and build a culture of preparedness.

Women STEM Leaders

A year-long journey that equips rural women and girls with science skills, leadership confidence, and entrepreneurial mentoring. We are not just teaching STEM, we are reshaping who gets to be a scientist.

Current Initiatives

Right now, our teams are in the field every single day, working alongside communities on projects that respond to what they have told us they need. Here is what we are building together at this moment.

water_drop

Village Pond Revival

In ten villages across Tirunelveli, we are working with local committees to desilt and restore traditional ponds that have been drying up for decades. A revived pond means groundwater recharge, better crops, and one less walk for water every morning.

school

After-School Science Clubs

Forty government schools now host weekly science clubs where children build their own working models, conduct experiments, and ask questions they never dared to ask in a regular classroom. Curiosity, once sparked, spreads like wildfire.

agriculture

Natural Farming Training

Over 500 smallholder farmers are learning climate-resilient techniques, from drought-tolerant seeds to natural pest management. The goal is not just better yields, but farming that the land can sustain for generations to come.

groups

Youth Climate Action Networks

Young people in 15 villages are forming their own climate action groups, leading tree-planting drives, waste management awareness, and advocacy for cleaner water. They are not waiting for change, they are becoming it.

Success Stories

Behind every number is a human story. These are glimpses of the lives that have been touched, transformed, and empowered through our collective work.

Mariammal's Journey

From SHG member to community leader

Mariammal joined a self-help group in her village five years ago, not knowing it would change everything. Today, she leads a federation of 40 SHGs, runs a small tailoring enterprise that employs six women, and represents her block at the district-level women's forum. She says, "I used to wait for someone to come and help us. Now I know we can help ourselves."

person

Karthik's Telescope

A star-gazer finds his path

Twelve-year-old Karthik attended one of our night sky camps in his village near Tirunelveli. That single night, seeing Saturn's rings through a telescope for the first time, set him on a path. He now leads his school's science club and has built a working model of a solar panel for his village's science fair. His dream? To join ISRO.

The Pond That Came Back

A village reclaims its water

The village of Keelaoor had not seen a full pond in fifteen years. The water body that had once sustained their dry-season crops was choked with silt and weeds. Working with SAARP's eco-team, the entire village turned up for a weekend desiltation drive. Today, the pond holds water through the summer, and the groundwater table has risen by three feet.

Rani's Health Camp

A routine checkup that changed a life

Rani, a 45-year-old mother of three, had never had her blood sugar checked. At a SAARP health camp in her village, a routine screening revealed dangerously high levels. She was connected to a nearby clinic, started treatment, and now volunteers at every camp in her block. "They didn't just find my illness, they showed me I mattered," she says.

Model Communities

Some villages have become living examples of what is possible when a community comes together. These model communities demonstrate holistic rural transformation in action, and they inspire neighbouring villages to chart their own path.

apartment

Thenmalaikottai

Tirunelveli District

Thenmalaikottai was the first village to embrace SAARP's holistic model, and today it stands as a testament to what community-led development can achieve. Every home has access to a science-club child, the village pond has been revived, women's SHGs run three thriving micro-enterprises, and the youth have formed a disaster response team that neighbouring villages now look to for guidance.

apartment

Keelaoor

Thoothukudi District

Keelaoor's story is written in water. After fifteen years of parched summers, the village united to restore its temple pond. Emboldened by that success, they planted 2,000 native saplings, started kitchen gardens in 80 homes, and now host monthly health awareness meets. Keelaoor proves that one small victory can spark a revolution.

apartment

Pudhukudi

Ramanathapuram District

Pudhukudi is where women lead. The village's all-women panchayat committee, supported by SAARP's leadership training, has transformed the hamlet. A community health centre now operates twice a week, girls attend school without interruption, and the village has become a training ground for SHG leaders from across the district.

Campaigns & Outreach

Some of our most powerful work happens beyond the project timeline. Awareness campaigns, public outreach drives, and community events that plant seeds of change in the public consciousness.

water_damage

Flood Awareness Month

Every year, ahead of the northeast monsoon, we run a month-long awareness drive across coastal villages. From door-to-door visits to street-theatre performances, we help families prepare evacuation plans, stock emergency kits, and know the early warning signals. Last year, 15,000 families participated.

Science on Wheels

A mobile science lab that travels from village to village, setting up temporary experiment stations in schoolyards and community centres. Children who have never seen a microscope get to peer into a drop of pond water. Parents, too, stop by, and the questions they ask are often as curious as their children's.

park

One Million Saplings Campaign

A bold, community-driven afforestation drive that has already planted over 600,000 native saplings across 100+ villages. Every sapling is nurtured by the community. Children adopt trees, women's groups run nurseries, and villages compete to keep their sapling survival rates the highest.

accessibility_new

Girls in STEM Campaign

A school-level campaign that challenges stereotypes and encourages girls to pursue science and mathematics with confidence. Through role-model talks, hands-on workshops, and all-girls science fairs, we are slowly but surely closing the gender gap in rural STEM classrooms.
